All over town! Registration Details and Information The 5th Annual PTA & SCEF Read-A-Thon is a fun two-week event (January 16-31) that encourages the love of reading and directly involves students in raising funds to support their school’s PTA through the San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF).
Target Audience: Students in the San Carlos School District
Registration Details and Information In collaboration with the schools in San Carlos, teachers in the 3rd and 4th grade classrooms will do a read aloud of "The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs" by Betty G Birney. The book features a boy who longs to see the marvels of the world and discovers that his own small town holds wonders and adventures of its own. The project will be for students to identify the "Wonders of San Carlos".
Get Info/Buy Tickets The children are rising up. Join the revolt! Matilda JR. is a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the “revolting children” who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.
The San Carlos Children's Theater cast is made up of students from San Carlos Middle and Upper Elementary schools.
Register Please register by January 22 to reserve your seats! Teams will be limited to 5 people. You can come with a team or you can become part of a team when you arrive. Our fantastic emcee, Matt, will be returning again this year. We encourage you to invite family, friends, and neighbors (trivia buffs or not!) to this fun and engaging community game night in San Carlos. Come early and pick up something to eat and/or drink from the food trucks or the Generator Bar. We look forward to another great event this year.
Come enjoy a fun evening with your family and friends. Play a variety of board and card games that are fun, competitive and educational in nature. We have over 100 games! Local board game players will loan their personal games for play, plus teach and coordinate game playing. Bring games from home to share as well.
Note: This is at the same location and time as the City-wide Roshambo Finals.
Healthy Cities Tutoring will run our annual San Carlos City-Wide Roshambo Contest (Rock, Paper, Scissors) where winners from local schools can play with others for prizes! Players will be grouped by age groups and we will crown age group winners as well as an eventual city-wide winner! Come join the fun!
Official Week of the Family Roshambo Rules:
You and your opponent make a fist with one hand and tap it three times on the fist of the other hand (or another hard surface).
You and your opponent should both count the strokes out loud.
On the third tap you and your opponent should both make or “throw” your characterizations of either ROCK, PAPER, or SCISSORS very distinctly, at the exact same time, so there is absolutely no mistake what you threw.
Winner is awarded 1 point for the winning throw. (Rock dulls/beats scissors, paper covers/beats rock, scissors cuts/beats paper.)
If you and your opponent “throw” the same character, no points are awarded--try again.
A player must win two out of three throws to win a game and two games to win the match.
Note: This is at the same location and time as the Family Game Night.

Since its inception in 1999, the Week of the Family Committee has designated the Monday of the week as a time reserved for families to stay at home and do something specifically with their family. It is hoped that reserving a set time each week for family time will become habit-forming.
Family Activity Day is for everyone. You are encouraged to “adopt” friends and neighbors who would enjoy an evening of family activities.
Ideas for things to do as a family:
Play board or card games
Get out the family photo album
Make up a play or story
Make dinner—everyone contributes a dish
Make a family calendar
Read a book aloud (book lists are available at the library)
Write letters to grandparents or other family members
Draw or paint a picture
Learn how to use a compass
Pull out your old records, tapes, CDs, then listen to and discuss music

Now, twenty-five years later, there are more than 45 volunteers on the committee hosting more than forty activities in ten days.
