The 6th Annual PTA & SCEF Read-A-Thon is a fun two-week event that encourages the love of reading and directly involves students in raising funds to support their school’s PTA through the San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF).

High School Musical JR. is a condensed, family-friendly stage adaptation of the popular Disney movie, tailored for younger performers. The show follows basketball captain Troy Bolton and new student Gabriella Montez as they break social barriers by auditioning for the school musical, leading to themes of self-discovery, unity, and challenging the status quo.
The San Carlos Children's Theater cast is made up of students from San Carlos Middle and Upper Elementary schools.

Eyeglass Collection

Bring you used eyeglasses to drop-off boxes at Week of the Family events.
One of the pillars of Lions Service is vision causes. Lions collect used eyeglasses (readers and sunglasses too). Every year Lions collect thousands of pounds of used eyeglasses which are refurbished and given to deserving people all over the United States and the world. This event is part of Community Service Saturday.

Food Drive for Caring Cupboard

Caring Cupboard is a free and confidential food support program for San Carlos residents, run by Lions, Kiwanis, and Rotary Clubs for Seniors in partnership with the San Carlos Adult Community Center. This event is part of Community Service Saturday.
We will be collecting canned food and packaged food to help fill our winter pantry. No glass please. Drop these off at any Community Service Saturday location.

Board Book & Baby Doll Collection

Give your good condition books for ages 2-5 and good condition baby dolls (8" or taller, clothes optional - no Barbies) a new home with a child who doesn't have many toys or books. Bonus points for books in Spanish! Learning Home Volunteers, a nonprofit that prepares low-income 2-5 year old for kindergarten by providing learning kits and parental support and training will find their next loving home. This event is part of Community Service Saturday.

"Kindness Rock" Painting

The Carlmont Key Club (local high school students) will host a painting party to decorate 100 rocks with messages of compassion and kindness! The rocks will be pre-prepped, so you can let your artist's hand shine! Join in the fun and the masterpieces will be donated to the Youth Center's rock garden. Be sure to make one to take home, as well! This event is part of Community Service Saturday.

Rise Against Hunger

Family Activity Day

Since its inception in 1999, the Week of the Family Committee has designated the Monday of the week as a time reserved for families to stay at home and do something specifically with their family. It is hoped that reserving a set time each week for family time will become habit-forming.
Family Activity Day is for everyone. You are encouraged to “adopt” friends and neighbors who would enjoy an evening of family activities.

Calling all Middle School kids! Come down with your friends and family and spend an afternoon with the residents of The Elms. Join the San Carlos Leos Club and other middle school students.
Many fun activities include making Valentines cards for The Veterans Hospital, reading or playing games with the residents, and making lunches for the homeless.We will be crafting and doing projects from 2:00 - 4:00, it's a short day so come have fun and do good for your community.

Healthy Cities Tutoring will run our annual San Carlos City-Wide Roshambo Contest (Rock, Paper, Scissors) where winners from local schools can play with others for prizes! Players will be grouped by age groups and we will crown age group winners as well as an eventual city-wide winner! Come join the fun!
Official Week of the Family Roshambo Rules:- You and your opponent make a fist with one hand and tap it three times on the fist of the other hand (or another hard surface).
- You and your opponent should both count the strokes out loud.
- On the third tap you and your opponent should both make or “throw” your characterizations of either ROCK, PAPER, or SCISSORS very distinctly, at the exact same time, so there is absolutely no mistake what you threw.
- Winner is awarded 1 point for the winning throw. (Rock dulls/beats scissors, paper covers/beats rock, scissors cuts/beats paper.)
- If you and your opponent “throw” the same character, no points are awarded--try again.
- A player must win two out of three throws to win a game and two games to win the match.
