Players will be grouped by age groups and we will crown age group winners as well as an eventual city-wide winner! Come join the fun!

Official Week of the Family Roshambo Rules:
    1. You and your opponent make a fist with one hand and tap it three times on the fist of the other hand (or another hard surface).
    2. You and your opponent should both count the strokes out loud.
    3. On the third tap you and your opponent should both make or “throw” your characterizations of either ROCK, PAPER, or SCISSORS very distinctly, at the exact same time, so there is absolutely no mistake what you threw.
    4. Winner is awarded 1 point for the winning throw. (Rock dulls/beats scissors, paper covers/beats rock, scissors cuts/beats paper.)
    5. If you and your opponent “throw” the same character, no points are awarded--try again.
    6. A player must win two out of three throws to win a game and two games to win the match.

Grab your team of 2-5 people and get ready for a fun and challenging adventure exploring San Carlos. You will gather at 9:30 AM and start your adventure at 10:00 AM. A Boondoggle is a team event involving three parts:
    • A Course that you will follow by solving clues that lead to specific destinations.
    • Loot that your team will gather along the Course.
    • Factoids that your team must answer.
All of the Course destinations, Loot and Factoids will relate to San Carlos and its 100 years of history, so you will not only have a great time, but you will learn things along the way. No advanced preparation is needed. Just put together a team that includes at least one driver (and a car that fits all of your team members) and your spirit of adventure, and get ready for some fun! The Boondoggle is expected to last about two hours and will culminate with a party at the Museum of San Carlos that includes awards and a time capsule reveal.

    All over town!

Since its inception in 1999, the Week of the Family Committee has designated the Monday of the week as a time reserved for families to stay at home and do something specifically with their family. It is hoped that reserving a set time each week for family time will become habit-forming.

Family Activity Day is for everyone. You are encouraged to “adopt” friends and neighbors who would enjoy an evening of family activities.

Ideas for things to do as a family:
    • Play board or card games
    • Get out the family photo album
    • Make up a play or story
    • Make dinner—everyone contributes a dish
    • Make a family calendar
    • Read a book aloud (book lists are available at the library)
    • Write letters to grandparents or other family members
    • Draw or paint a picture
    • Learn how to use a compass
    • Pull out your old records, tapes, CDs, then listen to and discuss music

Now, twenty-five years later, there are more than 45 volunteers on the committee hosting more than forty activities in ten days.

Please join us in celebrating Don Eaton as the founder of the San Carlos Week of the Family, who continues to make a meaningful impact, twenty-five years later.
